- The endangered species is found exclusively atop Mount Kaputar.
- A monument aims to boost tourism and celebrate unique wildlife.

The town of Narrabri in New South Wales is proposing a unique roadside attraction: a giant monument dedicated to the Mount Kaputar pink slug. This endangered species, notable for its fluorescent pink hue and exclusive habitat atop Mount Kaputar, is the focus of a plan to enhance local tourism.
The initiative, championed by Narrabri Shire Council, seeks to create an iconic art piece that draws visitors beyond typical highway stops. Randwick Council is assisting Narrabri in securing funding for the proposed sculpture, which could range from 10 to 20 metres or more in length.
Despite fears of extinction following the 2019-20 bushfires, small populations of the elusive slugs have been confirmed. This rediscovery has also spurred citizen science efforts through the 'Slug Sleuth' mobile app, aiding in monitoring the species' recovery.
