Ghaziabad Tackles 9 Pollution Hotspots This Winter
19 Sep
Summary
- Nine pollution hotspots identified for winter 2026-27.
- New hotspots face dust pollution from construction.
- AQI declined by 42 points over five years in Ghaziabad.
The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has designated nine areas in Ghaziabad as pollution hotspots for the 2026-27 winter. These locations, such as Sahibabad, Loni, and Indirapuram, are prone to excessive emissions and dust.
Officials note that Indirapuram and Vasundhara/Vaishali are new additions, primarily suffering from dust due to ongoing construction activities. Enhanced pollution control measures, including anti-smog machines and water sprinkling, will be deployed in these identified zones. Strict enforcement and regular monitoring by UPPCB teams are anticipated.
These hotspots are affected by industrial emissions, traffic congestion, road dust, and illegal industrial units. Despite efforts, Ghaziabad's annual average air quality index (AQI) has declined by 42 points from 227 in 2021 to 185 in 2025, highlighting ongoing air quality concerns for residents.
