Ganesh Prasad Powers Mumbai Hospitals

During this Ganeshotsav, the prasad from the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal's community kitchen is being utilized to generate renewable energy for municipal hospitals. The wet waste, estimated at 8 to 10 tonnes daily for the 11-day festival, will be processed at biomethanation plants in four BMC hospitals. This initiative aims to produce 7,744 units of electricity for lighting and other hospital needs. In a novel move, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is also recycling Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesha idols. Following Bombay High Court orders, a procedure has been established for retrieving idols from immersion sites within 24 hours. Retrieved PoP idols will be transported to the Mulund dumping ground for processing by a specialized agency. An estimated 2,850 tonnes of this material will be chemically disintegrated, with the potential for reuse in manufacturing new idols, building materials, and cement.
