Food Hub Overwhelmed: Free Veggies Available!

A charity dedicated to redistributing surplus food is facing an overwhelming abundance of vegetables and is calling for public assistance. The Shrewsbury Food Hub reported collecting approximately four tonnes, or 400 trays, of produce on Christmas Eve from supermarkets and wholesalers. This significant surplus has led to their depots being completely full.

The charity typically distributes food to vulnerable groups, including domestic abuse safe houses, foodbanks, and hospices. However, due to the excess, they are now extending an invitation to everyone to collect the perfectly good vegetables, ideal for making soup. They emphasize that the food is in excellent condition and available for anyone needing it.

With seven foodshare events scheduled for Friday, the charity encourages people to bring their own bags and make a donation if possible, though it is not mandatory. A detailed timetable with specific locations and times for these foodshares can be found on the charity's Facebook page. This initiative aims to ensure the food is used before it spoils.
