14 Apr
Summary
- Eversource and Arbor Day Foundation offer free trees.
- Program aims to conserve energy and promote sustainability.
- Customers can reserve trees online for April/May distribution.

Eversource, in collaboration with the Arbor Day Foundation, is providing free trees to New Bedford residents as part of its Energy-Saving Trees program. This initiative, now in its third year, seeks to enhance sustainability and environmental consciousness by distributing over 1,000 trees across Eversource's service area. Residents can secure a complimentary tree via an online portal, which also guides them on optimal planting locations for energy conservation.
The program offers a selection of tree species, including Eastern Redbud and Sweetbay Magnolia. Christopher Gonzalez from Eversource highlighted how strategic tree planting provides shade, improves air quality, supports biodiversity, and ensures the reliability of the electric system. This effort is designed to educate customers on long-term energy savings and support municipal sustainability goals.
Since 2024, Eversource has conducted similar tree distribution events in various Massachusetts communities. Dan Lambe of the Arbor Day Foundation stressed the value of tree canopies for community well-being. Distribution events are planned for late April or early May, contingent on tree availability. Customers needing assistance can contact the Arbor Day Foundation.
