A young fox cub, estimated to be about 12 weeks old, has been successfully rescued after being trapped in an outside drain on the Isle of Wight for roughly five days. Residents initially reported hearing barking for several days before the source was traced to the drain.
Volunteers from Friends of the Animals, alerted to the situation on Saturday, worked with Southern Water to locate the cub. A camera confirmed its presence, but initial attempts to retrieve the cub were unsuccessful. The breakthrough came on Sunday when a modified traffic cone was used to guide the cub into a safe retrieval area.
The cub, affectionately nicknamed Pied Piper, is now recovering at the island's RSPCA centre. Following veterinary treatment, she is reportedly gaining weight and will be released back into the wild once she has fully recovered.
