- Mattress and office chair among dumped items.
- Campaign aims to raise awareness and tackle problem.

West Northamptonshire Council has introduced a unique campaign to address the issue of fly-tipping. Fake crime scene tape is now being employed to visually mark areas heavily impacted by illegally dumped rubbish. This initiative aims to draw attention to how fly-tipping is damaging streets and polluting shared spaces within the community.
The council shared an image on social media showing the distinctive yellow tape encircling significant piles of discarded items, such as a mattress and an office chair, found in Blackthorn, Northampton. This particular area is currently part of a pilot scheme focused on raising public awareness and finding solutions to the persistent problem.
If this trial proves successful, the council indicated that the campaign could be expanded to other affected locations. Officials have stated that fly-tipping will not be tolerated and that the tape serves to identify specific hotspots where large quantities of abandoned goods have been discovered.
