A pair of peregrine falcons, known as Bonnie and Clyde, have taken up residence at the former Cineworld building on Renfrew Street in Glasgow. These birds, observed at a height of 200 ft, are being monitored by the Glasgow Peregrine Project, a collaboration involving the Scottish Ornithologists' Club, the University of Glasgow, and RSPB Scotland, which began in 2022.
Experts highlight the former cinema as an advantageous location for the falcons, citing the abundance of shelter from the elements and easy access to prey like pigeons. Bonnie, the female, is described as the most dominant predator in Glasgow, capable of outmaneuvering larger birds of prey. The building, which closed in September 2025, is slated to reopen as an Omniplex in mid-2026.
The pair had chicks last spring, named Jack and Victor, though sadly Jack did not survive the summer. Victor eventually left the nest at the end of 2025. The building, originally opened in 2001, was once recognized as the world's tallest cinema.
