2 Feb
Summary
- A new £32m "super tip" has opened in Aldridge, West Midlands.
- The center aims to cut fly-tipping costs and landfill taxes.
- A reuse shop on site will upcycle and repair items for resale.

A substantial £32 million investment has culminated in the opening of a new "super tip" in Aldridge, West Midlands, hailed as the largest of its kind in Europe. The facility, located on Middlemore Lane, commenced operations on Monday, boasting 38 skips distributed across 19 bays to accommodate a diverse array of recyclable materials.
Walsall Council leader Mike Bird views the expenditure as a crucial investment for the area. He expressed hope that the center will significantly decrease instances of fly-tipping, which currently incur substantial costs for waste collection. By reducing reliance on landfill, the council also anticipates savings on landfill taxes, thereby making it a cost-effective measure.
The "super tip" also features a dedicated reuse shop. This initiative is designed to give a new life to items that might otherwise be discarded. Staff will repair and upcycle goods, offering them for sale at affordable prices to residents, fostering a culture of reuse over disposable materials.
