- Post-poll waste will become souvenirs like pen stands and lanterns.

The Ernakulam District Administration, in collaboration with Suchitwa Mission and Haritha Keralam Mission, is introducing unique initiatives to ensure environmentally friendly elections. A campaign encourages residents to donate used clothing, which will be refurbished into mobile deposit facilities for polling stations. This initiative, tagged 'Wardrobe-il idle, Polling booth-il viral,' aims to repurpose materials rather than using new ones.
People can donate clean, pure cotton clothing items like kurtas, dresses, and bedsheets at the Civil Station in Ernakulam. These donated materials will be used to create approximately 3,200 hangable mobile repositories, each capable of holding 9-12 phones. Materials containing synthetic or blended fabrics will not be accepted, reinforcing a message of sustainability and upcycling.
Beyond the mobile deposit facilities, the administration plans to create souvenirs from paper and plastic waste generated after the elections. Items such as pen stands, paperweights, lanterns, and pots will be crafted, with discussions underway with NGOs for waste collection. This dual approach aims to make the elections in Ernakulam exceptionally green and sustainable.
