Elephants have been observed venturing into unusual areas like Ooty's private hospitals, marking a concerning shift in their behavior. Wildlife experts point to the degradation of natural habitats, exacerbated by invasive species and climate change, as primary drivers for this phenomenon. These environmental pressures, including rising temperatures and shifting water patterns, diminish suitable living spaces, compelling elephants to seek higher ground. Historically, elephants traversed the Nilgiri Hills, with their established routes even being utilized by British engineers for road construction, as documented by conservationist E.R.C. Davidar. These ancient paths, such as those connecting Mettupalayam to Kunjapanai and Kalhatty Road, facilitated movement between plains and plateaus.
