A young elephant calf narrowly escaped danger after becoming trapped in a canal near Jamudalak village. The calf, approximately one month old, was stranded in the 3-4 ft-wide Kanpur Irrigation Project canal, while its mother desperately tried to pull it free. Forest officials were alerted and swiftly responded to the situation.
To ensure the calf's safety, rescue teams, including forest staff and local villagers, worked together. They took the crucial step of halting the water flow in the canal and diverting it, significantly aiding the rescue efforts. With the reduced current and cleared steps, the mother elephant was finally able to lift her calf out of the canal.
Following the initial rescue, the mother and calf briefly became separated from their herd and encountered another obstacle near a transformer enclosure and garden fence. Forest officials quickly intervened once more, guiding them safely across a bridge and into an open field. Ultimately, the pair rejoined their herd of 13 elephants.
