Summary
- Prayagraj distributes cow dung cakes for eco-friendly Holika Dahan.
- Initiative aims to prevent tree cutting and reduce smoke pollution.
- Nearly 1,000 dung cakes per ward to be distributed city-wide.

Prayagraj is spearheading an eco-friendly approach to Holi celebrations this year by organizing Holika Dahan events using cow dung cakes instead of wood. This innovative initiative by the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) seeks to address the significant tree cutting that occurs annually for the festival bonfires.
Nearly 1,000 cow dung cakes are being distributed in each of the city's 100 wards. These cakes are being procured from cattle rearers within the city and from surrounding rural areas. Municipal teams have been formed to manage the procurement and distribution effectively.
The PMC believes cow dung cakes burn more efficiently and produce less smoke compared to green wood. This is expected to reduce air pollution during Holi. The initiative also aims to conserve the city's green cover and discourage the indiscriminate felling of trees.
Mayor Umesh Chandra Ganesh Kesarwani stated that this initiative reflects the corporation's commitment to balancing tradition with environmental consciousness. The distribution will be supervised by elected corporators, encouraging residents to participate in community Holika Dahan at designated public locations.
