East Yorkshire Could Get Huge New Solar Farm
28 Apr
Summary
- A 500MW solar farm is proposed for East Yorkshire.
- The project could power up to 180,000 homes.
- Public consultations are being held in local halls.

Energy developer Statkraft has put forward plans for the Mylen Leah Solar Farm, a substantial 500MW project located near Pocklington in East Yorkshire. This proposed solar farm has the capacity to generate enough electricity to supply up to 180,000 homes, marking a significant development in renewable energy for the region.
As part of the planning process, Statkraft is engaging in a public consultation. Residents can view the proposals and provide feedback at village halls in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor, Melbourne, and Bubwith throughout May 2026. Online webinars will also be available for broader participation.
The development, situated on and around a former airfield, has been designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project. This means that planning permission will be determined by the national Planning Inspectorate, bypassing the local council. Statkraft highlights potential benefits, including enhanced energy security, local economic opportunities, and a community benefit fund for local projects.
However, the proposal has drawn criticism from some residents concerned about the impact on the countryside, likening it to industrialization. Previous large-scale solar farm approvals in nearby areas have also faced opposition, with concerns raised about the transformation of rural landscapes.
