Summary
- East Surrey Hospital to install 2,827 solar panels.
- The project received £1.6m in government funding.
- Solar panels will be operational by spring 2026.

East Surrey Hospital is installing 2,827 solar panels on its rooftop to decrease its carbon footprint. The hospital anticipates the solar installation to be fully operational by spring 2026.
This significant renewable energy project for the Redhill site is funded by a £1.6m grant from Great British Energy, a government-backed company. This funding is part of a broader initiative to support renewable energy projects in public institutions.
The Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which operates East Surrey Hospital, was among numerous successful bidders for the funding. The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has allocated approximately £100m to around 200 NHS sites for similar solar panel installations.
