East England Water Avoids Ban Amid Heatwave
26 Jun
Summary
- Anglian Water supplies most of East England.
- Record temperatures are impacting water demand.
- Customers are urged to conserve water voluntarily.

Most of the East of England will not face a region-wide hosepipe ban, according to Anglian Water. The company, responsible for supplying water to millions across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Suffolk, and parts of Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, and County Durham, confirmed it has no current plans to implement such restrictions.
This decision comes as the UK experiences record-breaking temperatures. Anglian Water reported producing a record 1,600 million litres of water on Wednesday alone, significantly higher than its typical daily distribution of 1,200 million litres. This surge in demand is attributed to the ongoing heatwave.
While a ban is not planned, Ian Rule, director of water services, emphasized the need for customer cooperation. He urged all customers to voluntarily conserve water by reducing non-essential use. Suggestions include reusing water from paddling pools for gardens, taking shorter showers, and delaying tasks like washing cars to collectively make a significant difference in managing supply during these extreme conditions.
