Delhi Roads: A Deathtrap of Debris and Dust
30 Oct
Summary
- Excavated roads and debris plague East Delhi areas.
- Traffic police warn of congestion, dust, and safety risks.
- Urgent intervention sought from district administration.
Roads in East Delhi's Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony, Kanti Nagar, and Jheel Khurenja are in disarray, causing significant traffic congestion, dust pollution, and safety hazards. Excavated roads, ongoing civil works, and accumulated construction debris have made conditions perilous for motorists and pedestrians alike.
A recent letter from the Delhi Traffic Police to the East District Administration detailed these critical issues. Following a field inspection on October 15, traffic officials documented numerous problematic locations, including Raja Ram Kohli Marg and Swami Dayanand Marg. These areas suffer from extensive debris, reduced carriageway widths, and uneven road surfaces.
The traffic police emphasized the heightened risk of accidents as pedestrians and cyclists are forced to share narrowed roadways with vehicles. Incomplete restoration work, loose soil, and scattered rubble further obstruct traffic flow and create hazardous conditions, particularly for two-wheelers.
Obstructed footpaths compel pedestrians into the carriageway, while narrow roads could impede emergency services like ambulances and fire tenders. The letter urged the District Magistrate to convene a joint inspection involving the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Works Department, and Delhi Jal Board for swift resolution.
