Dugri Roads: 9 Months of Chaos Post Pipeline Work
27 Sep
Summary
- Dugri residents face road damage for nine months after pipeline project.
- Technical issues and rainy weather delayed road repairs significantly.
- Mayor urged officials to expedite repairs on excavated city roads.
Residents of Dugri have been navigating treacherous road conditions for approximately nine months following excavation for a new canal water supply pipeline project. The extensive delays have transformed daily commutes into difficult experiences, particularly on stretches in Phase 2 and in front of Durga Mata Mandir in Phase 1.
Sub-division officer Jaideep Singh cited technical necessities and adverse weather as reasons for the protracted timeline. Hydro testing of the new pipes took time, and the subsequent rainy season prevented mandatory soil compaction tests needed before blacktopping can commence.
Singh assured that repairs are in progress, but cautioned that the process will take time due to a backlog of similar roadwork across the city. Locals report frequent accidents involving two-wheelers and vehicles getting stuck in mud, raising concerns about increased risks, especially with winter fog approaching.
In response, Mayor Inderjit Kaur convened a meeting on September 13th, instructing civic officials to expedite the blacktopping of all roads affected by the pipeline installations.
