Third Tigress Found Dead in Dudhwa Buffer Zone
6 May
Summary
- Third big cat casualty recorded in Dudhwa buffer zone since April 1.
- Tigress carcass showed multiple injuries, indicating a tiger conflict.
- Post-mortem confirmed death resulted from an attack by another male tiger.

A tigress was found deceased on Tuesday within the Dudhwa buffer zone's reserved forests, specifically in the Nauniya beat of Majhgain range. This incident represents the third big cat casualty in the Dudhwa buffer zone since the beginning of April.
Preliminary findings at the scene, including pugmarks of male tigers and multiple canine and nail injuries on the carcass, strongly indicated that the tigress died as a result of a fight with another male tiger. A post-mortem examination was conducted by a team of veterinary doctors as per NTCA standard operating procedures.
The official post-mortem report confirmed that the tigress succumbed to an attack by another male tiger. The viscera of the deceased animal has been preserved and dispatched for further laboratory analysis. This incident follows a previous tigress death on April 1st, which was caused by a speeding train, and a leopard's death on April 18th from a vehicle collision.
