15 Apr
Summary
- One of 16 historic limestone stepping stones dislodged by stormy weather.
- Route deemed unsafe by National Trust and Derbyshire Council.
- Repairs delayed due to wet conditions and high river levels.

The National Trust has restricted access to Dovedale's famous stepping stones due to damage sustained during recent stormy weather. One of the 16 limestone stones, originally laid around 1890, was dislodged five months ago.
The route connecting Derbyshire and Staffordshire is now considered unsafe, prompting warnings from the National Trust and Derbyshire County Council. Repairs are the responsibility of the council, but ongoing wet conditions and high river levels have delayed restoration efforts.
Derbyshire County Council plans to carry out the necessary repairs within the next couple of months. In the interim, visitors are advised to use an alternative bridge located a few hundred metres away, although some individuals continue to use the damaged stones despite the warnings.
