On November 11, 2025, a fisherman named Ethan Clarke was enjoying a weekend of fishing on the island of K'gari, formerly known as Fraser Island, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. While fishing on the eastern side of the island, north of Eurong, Mr. Clarke accidentally caught what he believed to be a young whaler shark.
Attempting to release the shark back into the sea, Mr. Clarke was surprised when an opportunistic dingo ran into the shallows and plucked the predator out of the water. Quickly capturing the moment on his phone, the fisherman shared the dramatic footage, which has since gone viral.
The incident on K'gari comes just weeks after hundreds of sharks, including various whaler shark species, were spotted in the shallows of nearby Moreton Island. Experts believe the sharks were drawn close to shore by large bait balls, dense schools of fish that swim in formation to confuse predators.

Dingoes on K'gari are considered apex predators and are known to hunt across the island's forests, dunes, and beaches. While they typically prey on small to medium native mammals, the opportunistic canines are also known to scavenge for fish and other marine life that washes ashore.
