3 Dec
Summary
- New e-patrolling software tracks forest staff movements in real time.
- Minister Khandre directs all forest circles to adopt the new system.
- Bandipur tiger population exceeds forest carrying capacity, increasing conflict.

State forest departments are enhancing surveillance with a new e-patrolling software designed to monitor field staff movements in real time. This digital system aims to improve ground readiness, identify protection gaps, and strengthen overall forest security.
Eshwar B. Khandre, Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment, has directed all forest circles to implement the software. He emphasized its importance in mitigating increasing human-wildlife conflicts, citing the critical tiger population density in Bandipur as a key concern requiring quick response.
To further manage conflicts, temporary patrol camps are to be established every five kilometers. The Minister also stressed community engagement, outreach activities, and involving NGOs to foster co-existence and educate local populations on wildlife encounters.
