Bothe Meadows, a grassland site in Sawley, Derbyshire, is slated for conversion into a woodland. Erewash Borough Council has announced plans to transform the area, currently used for grazing, into a dedicated haven for wildlife. This transformation will include addressing existing dying trees on the site.
The council's vision involves creating a wet woodland in the southern section, which naturally floods, and a food forest with a mixed fruit orchard in the northern part. This strategic development aims to boost local biodiversity and establish essential habitats.
Mark Alfrey, lead member for environment, highlighted the project's dual benefit for nature and the community. The council intends to co-create this initiative, working closely with local community members and professional partners to realize its full potential.
