Delhi Dust Dominates Summer PM2.5: CAQM Tackles Source
19 Jun
Summary
- Dust is Delhi's top summer PM2.5 source, contributing 27%.
- CAQM establishes data-driven monitoring for dust management.
- Annual action plans for air quality are now publicly available.

Dust emerges as the primary contributor to PM2.5 concentrations in Delhi-NCR during the summer months, with its impact reaching 27 percent. This figure contrasts with the 15 percent contribution observed during winter. In response, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is establishing rigorous, data-driven monitoring systems.
These new mechanisms are designed to ensure that civic agencies and city administrations are held accountable for effectively managing dust originating from local roads and construction activities. As part of this initiative, the NCR is equipped with 90 Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Stations. For the first time, annual action plans have been published online, fostering transparency and encouraging public involvement in air quality improvement efforts.
