Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has stressed the critical need to expedite repairs on a damaged pipeline supplying treated water to Sanjay Lake. The restoration of water flow from the Dallupura sewage treatment plant is deemed essential for the lake's continued existence.
Sandhu reviewed the rejuvenation plans for the 52-acre lake and surrounding forest area. Concerns were raised about the lake's deteriorating condition due to reduced water, silt, and sewage inflows. Regular treated water supply must be restored promptly to maintain adequate water levels.
Restoration work is already in progress, including de-weeding and embankment repairs. The first phase, due by August 2026, aims to channel stagnant water, install bio-swales, and repair pathways. The second phase, expected by May 2027, will expand channelization and introduce bio-remediation and aerators.
Furthermore, the LG directed officials to plant 5,000 native trees to boost biodiversity. Restoring Sanjay Lake to its former glory is considered a non-negotiable objective.
