AI Fights Delhi Pollution: New Command Centre Launched
14 Oct
Summary
- AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre launched October 1.
- Centralised digital platform integrates air quality, emissions, and complaints.
- System relies on agency action for pollution reduction effectiveness.
Delhi has activated an AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) to centralize environmental data and enhance pollution monitoring. Launched on October 1, this initiative aims to unify fragmented systems onto a common digital platform. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed its operations recently.
The ICCC integrates real-time data on air quality, industrial emissions, dust, noise, stubble burning, and citizen complaints. This allows officials to identify problem areas, analyze pollution drivers through AI, and coordinate responses, including tracking enforcement vehicles and road sweepers.
Industrial emissions are tracked via a Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS) module. Construction sites and dust sources are monitored through a dedicated dust-control module, with CCTV feeds available where feasible.
Citizen complaints are linked directly to field actions, with mobile app submissions providing geo-tagged evidence. The system also monitors noise levels and processes environmental consent applications to strengthen regulatory oversight.
Integrating 15 external data systems, the ICCC's effectiveness hinges on translating technology into quicker enforcement and measurable environmental gains. Its impact depends on coordinated agency action and sustained enforcement efforts.
