Minister of State for Environment Kirtivardhan Singh recently visited the Delhi Zoo, focusing on conservation efforts and animal welfare. During his visit, Singh bestowed names upon newly born cubs. Two female white tiger cubs, born in March 2025, were named Durga and Devi. He also formally released one of the white tiger cubs into the exhibit area for public viewing.
The minister further reviewed the care of two Asiatic lion cubs, a male named Kartik and a female named Karni, born in April 2025. The zoo currently houses a significant population of big cats, including six white tigers, six lions, and eight royal Bengal tigers. Singh also inspected the elephant enclosures, assessing the well-being of Raj Laxmi and Heera Gaj.
Additionally, the minister visited the zoo hospital to check on a tiger cub born in July 2025. He provided valuable input on enhancing winter management strategies for all animals. This visit followed recent incidents at the zoo, including the escape of four jackals and the death of an Indian rock python.
