The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) registered at 380, falling into the 'very poor' category, with specific locations like Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar reaching 'severe' levels. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has activated all measures under Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage-IV throughout Delhi-NCR in response.
These stringent GRAP-IV measures include prohibitions on non-essential construction activities and the entry of specific diesel vehicles, alongside intensified enforcement efforts. Simultaneously, Delhi's Environment Minister conducted surprise inspections at petrol stations to ensure adherence to the 'No PUC, No Fuel' directive. The initiative aims to encourage vehicle owners to obtain Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCCs) before refueling.
Over 61,000 PUCCs were issued in Delhi between December 17 and 18, indicating significant public cooperation with the new measures. The government anticipates a further increase in PUCC issuance, viewing this response as a positive sign of citizen trust and commitment to improving air quality for public health.
