Roads crumble under Delhi's landfill waste
4 Mar
Summary
- Landfill waste and sewage repeatedly damage major Delhi road.
- Commuters face traffic nightmares due to poor road conditions.
- PWD demands MCD fix landfill drainage causing road damage.

A vital road in south-east Delhi, Ma Anandmayee Marg, is experiencing significant and repeated damage. The Public Works Department (PWD) attributes this deterioration to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) inadequate management of the Okhla landfill site and its associated drainage systems. Overflowing sewage mixed with silt from the landfill is consistently being deposited onto the road surface, creating hazardous driving conditions.
This arterial route, connecting major roads and serving numerous areas, is further burdened by the constant movement of MCD garbage trucks. Commuters report severe traffic congestion and poor road conditions, describing it as a systemic failure. The PWD has issued multiple communications to the MCD, urging them to address the problem and implement permanent solutions to prevent further damage to the road.
