The Delhi Ridge Management Board (DRMB), reconstituted and meeting for the first time on June 29, has greenlit a significant four-year eco-restoration plan. This initiative covers an expansive 6,303.6 hectares of the ridge forests, with a focus on rejuvenation and ecological enhancement.
Furthermore, the DRMB has endorsed the establishment of theme-based forests, adding a unique dimension to the ridge's landscape. A standing committee has been constituted to meticulously scrutinize all project proposals prior to their submission to the main board, ensuring a streamlined approval process.
Significant progress has been made in demarcating and notifying forest areas, with over 4,850 hectares officially notified. Efforts are also underway to process pending notifications and address areas with legal disputes or private ownership to bring them under effective forest management.
The DRMB is actively addressing encroachment, directing forest officials to develop and implement a time-bound anti-encroachment removal plan. This proactive approach aims to protect the ridge's ecological integrity and ensure its preservation for future generations.
