Delhi Dumping Ground Scandal Exposed Near UER-2
29 Dec
Summary
- DPCC confirmed illegal dumping of waste near Urban Extension Road-2.
- Construction and demolition debris was found openly dumped.
- Officials observed and doused open waste burning at the site.

Recent inspections have revealed extensive illegal dumping of municipal solid waste and construction and demolition (C&D) debris near Delhi's Urban Extension Road-2 in Mundka. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) reported these findings to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) following a plea by a local resident. The DPCC's on-ground inspection on October 29 confirmed open dumping of household garbage, plastic waste, and construction materials.
During the inspection, officials also observed open burning of mixed waste, including electrical wires, at the site. The DPCC team successfully doused the fires on the spot. A report detailing these violations was submitted to the NGT on November 27, with directions issued to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to initiate legal proceedings against the offenders.
This issue is not new, as a similar inspection by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in Mundka in September 2024 highlighted that industrial areas had become dumping grounds. The ongoing neglect has led to the accumulation of waste and hazardous conditions, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and immediate action.
