Delhi Pollution Board Faces Staffing Crisis
10 Apr
Summary
- Over 50 posts vacant in Delhi Pollution Control Committee.
- Staffing shortages have plagued pollution control bodies for years.
- Delhi has no solid waste monitoring coverage.

As of April 1st, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has 52 unfilled sanctioned posts, representing a 15.1% vacancy rate. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported these figures to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which has been monitoring the DPCC's staffing situation since October 2023. Efforts are underway to fill these positions within the next three months, including recruitment drives for various engineering and administrative roles.
Environmental experts emphasize that consistent manpower shortages have hindered State Pollution Control Boards and Committees for years. Adequate staffing is deemed crucial for these bodies to effectively address evolving environmental challenges, formulate policies, and enforce regulations. Current monitoring capabilities in Delhi show partial coverage for water and wastewater parameters (39 out of 67), partial coverage for meteorology, air, noise, and emissions (23 out of 28), and no coverage for solid waste monitoring.
