11 Jun
Summary
- Delhi aims to plant 2.3 million native saplings across 1,000 acres.
- The drive covers parks, ridge areas, and biodiversity parks.
- Plantation is scheduled from early July to mid-September.

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has launched a significant urban afforestation program aimed at enhancing the city's green cover. This initiative, directed by LG T S Sandhu, involves planting approximately 2.3 million native saplings, including trees, shrubs, and bushes, across 1,000 acres of land.
The plantation drive will encompass 675 DDA parks, four distinct ridge areas, six biodiversity parks, green corridors, and other ecologically sensitive zones. The overarching goal is to strengthen biodiversity, improve air quality, and build climate resilience.
This extensive effort is projected to bring nearly 2.9% of Delhi's total geographical area under focused urban afforestation and ecological restoration. Preparations are actively underway, including site selection and soil preparation.
Plantation activities are slated to begin in the first week of July and will continue through mid-September, prioritizing native and climate-resilient species.
