Delhi-NCR Industries Face Shutdown Over Pollution
31 Oct
Summary
- 17 polluting industries in Delhi-NCR must install air pollution control devices.
- Non-compliant units face closure or show-cause notices ahead of winter.
- Revised emission norms set a particulate matter limit of 50 ug/m3.
Industrial units in Delhi-NCR that have not installed or ordered air pollution control devices (APCDs) are now subject to closure or show-cause notices. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) issued this directive on October 30, targeting 17 highly polluting industry categories. This measure is critical for improving air quality in the region, especially as winter approaches and industrial emissions typically increase.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) had previously set a particulate matter emission limit of 50 micrograms per cubic metre for these industries. Initially due in August, the compliance deadline was extended to October 1 due to supply chain and cost issues. Units failing to provide evidence of work orders for APCD installation within five days of the CPCB's order will face closure until compliance is assured.
