22 Jan
Summary
- 600 electric water tankers will improve water safety and transparency.
- Desilting Wazirabad barrage will generate ₹25 crore revenue for DJB.
- New sewer projects will provide 200,000 connections to 125,000 residents.

In a significant move towards technological governance and environmental accountability, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has sanctioned numerous projects. A total of 600 electric vehicle (EV)-mounted water tankers are to be deployed, enhancing water safety and curbing unregulated supply. Three hundred tankers will offer free water to residential areas, while the other 300 will serve commercial entities on a payment basis.
These advanced tankers will feature GPS tracking and app-based booking for citizen convenience. The transition to EVs also aims to cut down vehicular emissions. The DJB also approved scientific desilting and restoration of the Wazirabad barrage's pondage area, a project projected to earn the board ₹25 crore by selling the accumulated silt.
