Mehrauli Archaeological Park saw a significant community effort on Sunday as over 50 volunteers participated in The Heritage Cleanliness Project. This initiative successfully removed 120 kilograms of waste from the park's trails and surrounding areas, employing a structured waste management approach that included segregation for recycling.
The clean-up primarily targeted non-biodegradable waste such as plastic wrappers, bottles, and discarded clothing. The Heritage Cleanliness Project reimagines traditional drives by integrating heritage storytelling and music, creating an engaging experience for citizens to reconnect with Delhi's historic sites.
Organized monthly, the project is cultivating a dedicated community of volunteers committed to preserving Delhi's shared heritage through collective civic action. Founder Simar Malhotra highlighted the need for public awareness regarding littering, emphasizing that preserving these heritage spaces is a shared responsibility.
The initiative is a collaboration between Inkpot India and NGO Parvaah, with support from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Various organizations, including Kaash Magic Foundation and ILA Green, contributed to the July event.
