Delhi Chokes: Air Quality Nears Severe
24 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Delhi's air quality index reached 396 on Monday morning.
- Pollutants are trapped due to low wind speeds and cold temperatures.
- Air quality is expected to remain in the 'very poor' category.

Delhi's air quality has worsened significantly, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 396 on Monday morning, placing it on the brink of the 'severe' category. This deterioration is attributed to stagnant weather conditions, characterized by low wind speeds and dropping temperatures, which are effectively trapping pollutants close to the ground and creating a persistent haze across the city.
The Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS) has issued a grim forecast, indicating that the 'very poor' air quality is likely to continue from Monday through Wednesday, with no significant improvement expected in the subsequent week. This persistent pollution has already led to 18 consecutive days in the 'very poor' category since November 6.
