Delhi's Air Quality Plummets to Poor Category
18 Oct
Summary
- Delhi's AQI reached 187 on Sunday, a sharp increase from Friday.
- Slow winds and lack of rain contribute to the worsening air quality.
- Air quality is expected to remain in the 'poor' category until October 21.
New Delhi's air quality has seen a considerable decline, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 187 on Sunday afternoon. This marks a significant rise from Friday's AQI of 90 and Saturday's reading of 159. The city had previously recorded an AQI of 187 on October 4th.
Officials attribute the current pollution spike to a combination of factors including insufficient rainfall, reduced wind speeds, and local emission sources. Of the 58 monitoring stations across Delhi, 21 stations reported air quality in the 'poor' category.
The Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS) bulletin indicates a rise in maximum temperatures and a fall in minimum temperatures over the past 24 hours. Looking ahead, the AQEWS forecasts that the air quality is likely to stay in the 'poor' category from October 19th to October 21st.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a minimum temperature of 18.6 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Similar weather conditions are expected in the coming days, with clear skies and no rain anticipated for the next week.
