Delhi Air Quality Improves, Stage-4 Restrictions Lifted

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has lifted Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in Delhi due to a marginal improvement in air quality. The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) decreased from 'severe' to 'very poor', ending a three-day streak of severe readings.

This lifting of restrictions permits the entry of trucks and BS-4 diesel heavy goods vehicles back into the capital. Construction and demolition activities for linear projects can also resume, though private C&D activities remain prohibited. Mandatory hybrid class restrictions for certain school grades have also been removed.

Stage-4 was initially imposed on January 17 when the AQI crossed 400. The CAQM decided to ease measures considering the disruptive nature of the restrictions and the positive trend in AQI, while noting that air quality is still forecast to remain in the 'very poor' category.
