Prem Nagar's Waste Woes: Roads Choked with Garbage
23 Aug
Summary
- Garbage dumped on roadsides and drains causes problems for residents.
- Shopkeepers lack regular door-to-door garbage collection services.
- Poor traffic management and illegal parking worsen road conditions.

Prem Nagar residents are contending with persistent issues of garbage accumulation on roadsides and within drainage systems. This waste often flows onto the main road, attracting stray cattle and creating hazardous conditions for both animals and motorists. Traders in the market area highlight a disparity in waste management services, noting the absence of regular door-to-door collection compared to residential zones.
The locality also suffers from inadequate traffic control, exacerbated by illegal parking that significantly narrows roadways. A non-functional traffic signal near Tyagi Market Road further impedes smooth traffic flow. The lack of designated footpaths forces pedestrians to navigate busy streets, increasing their vulnerability. Area councillor Anil Prasad Nautiyal acknowledged the problem, attributing it partly to residents misusing designated dumping points and jurisdictional complexities arising from parts of Prem Nagar falling under the cantonment board.
