Deadly Tiger Attack Kills Farmer Near Bandipur Reserve

On October 28, 2025, a tragic incident of human-wildlife conflict occurred near the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in Karnataka's Saragur taluk. A farmer named Doddaningaiah was killed in a tiger attack while grazing cattle in the fields. This is the third such incident reported from the Saragur taluk in recent days, with two other farmers losing their lives and another battling for life in the hospital.

The Bandipur-Nagarahole belt is home to nearly 300 tigers, as per the 2022 report of the National Tiger Conservation Authority. While the region has historically seen conflicts involving elephants raiding crops or straying into villages, there is now a worrying shift, with tigers venturing closer to human habitation, preying on livestock, and claiming human lives.

The latest attack from the Moliyuru range of the Bandipur Tiger Reserve is the third in a series of incidents that have shaken the local community. Forest department officials are investigating the matter, and the state government has announced the constitution of a task force to manage the escalating human-wildlife conflict in the region.
