Davanagere-Harihar Lakes Revived as Tourist Attractions

As of October 12, 2025, the Davanagere-Harihar Urban Development Authority (DHuda) is undertaking a major initiative to transform three lakes on the outskirts of the cities into tourist destinations. The authority has allocated ₹9.3 crore for the renovation of Bathi Lake, located between Harihar and Davanagere, and ₹2.3 crore each for the development of Honnur and Naganur Lakes.

The development plans for these lakes include securing the embankments with fencing, constructing pathways for public walks, and installing decorative lighting to make them more tourist-friendly. An additional ₹5 crore has been set aside for other improvements, such as boating facilities and fountains. The lake development work will be undertaken in phases.

The initiative to revive these lakes is part of DHuda's efforts to prevent the city's expanding residential areas from polluting and encroaching on the water bodies. The authority is also taking measures to prevent sewage water from entering the lake basins when approving new private residential projects.

The development of Bathi Lake is expected to benefit the residents of both Harihar and Davanagere, potentially turning it into a popular picnic spot. There are also plans to provide a food court and other amenities to attract more visitors. The rejuvenation of Naganur and Honnur Lakes will follow a similar model to that of Bathi Lake.
