Summary
- Transparent acrylic sheets now enclose Dadar Kabutarkhana.
- Installation aims to prevent hawker encroachment on the heritage site.
- Pigeon feeding at the site has been prohibited since August 2025.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has finalized the installation of transparent acrylic sheets around Dadar Kabutarkhana. This initiative aims to deter hawkers from encroaching on the space, which has been closed to pigeon feeding for over a year. Previously, metal sheets were used, but hawkers were found to be removing them to store goods.
The decision to cover the structure dates back to August 2025, when the BMC first implemented restrictions on pigeon feeding citing health concerns. Despite these measures, protesters previously breached barricades to feed pigeons. The new transparent barriers will preserve the visibility of the heritage site while ensuring its protection from unauthorized use and activity.
