A surprising garden visitor in Gwenapp, Cornwall, caused a stir when a raccoon was spotted by resident Hayley Fairburn. The sighting triggered a significant search operation by the RSPCA, with local wildlife facilities confirming all their raccoons were present. This led to speculation about the animal's origins, with suggestions it might be an escaped pet.
The mysterious masked mammal was eventually located hiding within a resident's greenhouse. RSPCA officers and veterinary staff successfully and safely secured the animal. The unexpected appearance and subsequent capture of the raccoon left locals and authorities baffled by the incident.
Upon examination, the recaptured raccoon was found to be three times its expected weight. This incident marked the second recent escape of a wild animal in Cornwall, following a baby flamingo that had previously gone missing from a wildlife park and was later found in France.
