A search is underway for a new manager to oversee a cherished wildlife reserve situated on a picturesque Cornish island. This unique position, located within the Whitsand and Looe Bay Marine Conservation Area, presents an exceptional chance to dedicate oneself to conservation efforts.
The island, also known historically as St George's Island during World War Two, spans over 22 acres and features diverse habitats including woodland, grassland, and a rocky reef. It is crucial for wildlife, providing sanctuary for marine species, seabirds like cormorants and oystercatchers, and hosting Cornwall's largest breeding colony of great black-backed gulls.
In addition to wildlife care, the manager will lead a team of volunteers and curate a special visitor experience. Accommodation is provided as part of the role, which has an application deadline of Sunday, November 15. The island was gifted to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust in 2004 by sisters Babs and Evelyn Atkins.
