A significant £795,000 renovation project has commenced at the graveyard surrounding Colchester's Holy Trinity Church in Essex. This ambitious undertaking will introduce new pathways, seating areas, and a dedicated memorial to honor those lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The refurbishment extends to the restoration of historical monuments and gravestones, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Enhancements also include repaired railings, gates, and steps, along with the installation of new lighting and power supplies for nearby market traders.
This project is part of a broader vision to "revive" the churchyard, which has been closed for several decades. The graveyard improvements are slated for completion in the autumn. Separately, plans are underway for a multimillion-pound, £3.8m revamp of Holy Trinity Church itself, Colchester's oldest standing building, pending funding approval.
