Summary
- New elephant camp inaugurated in Coimbatore district.
- Two elephants, including a former rogue tusker, relocated.
- Camp aims to manage straying wild elephants from residential areas.

The Chadivayal elephant camp, established at a cost of Rs 8 crore, has officially opened in Coimbatore's Boluvampatti forest range. This new facility welcomed two elephants on Wednesday night: Muthu, a 24-year-old tusker previously known as 'Arisi Raja' and captured for causing human fatalities, and Cauvery, a 17-year-old female elephant. Both were transferred from the Kozhikamuthi elephant camp.
The Boluvampatti forest range officer highlighted the strategic importance of stationing kumki elephants like Muthu at this camp. The area frequently experiences visits from wild elephants, and Muthu will be utilized to guide them away from residential areas and agricultural fields. Cauvery will not participate in these operations. Additional elephants are expected to join the camp based on directives from forest officials.
The newly inaugurated camp boasts 18 elephant sheds, 18 mahout houses, a natural pond, and dedicated facilities for food preparation. A decision regarding public access for tourism has not yet been made by the authorities.
