Coastal Erosion Threatens Homes in Norfolk: Filmmaker Brings Plight to Disney+
1 Nov
Summary
- Filmmaker Joseph Harrington documents the erosion crisis in Happisburgh, Norfolk
- Homes are being lost or at risk of demolition due to crumbling clifftops
- Film will stream on Disney+ next year, raising international awareness

In November 2025, a new documentary is set to bring the difficult conditions facing people living near crumbling clifftops in Norfolk, England, to an international audience. "After the Tide" follows three main characters who have either lost or are at risk of losing their homes in the coastal town of Happisburgh.
Filmmaker Joseph Harrington, 29, began filming the documentary in December 2021 after learning that a colleague's family home was due for demolition due to the encroaching erosion. Harrington, who grew up visiting Norfolk's beaches, said seeing the issue firsthand was "incredibly stark" and prompted him to shed light on the crisis.
The film will explore the impacts of climate change and the ongoing debate around sea defenses in Happisburgh. It will be available to stream on Disney+ starting next year, potentially reaching a wide global audience. Harrington hopes the documentary will raise awareness about the risks of coastal erosion, which he says has been an issue for "thousands of years" on this stretch of the Norfolk coastline.
