13 Feb
Summary
- Reconstruction efforts are underway at Clophill Lakes nature reserve.
- The reserve suffered significant damage from an arson attack last summer.
- Nearly £100,000 has been raised for repairs and enhanced security measures.

Rebuilding efforts are in full swing at Clophill Lakes nature reserve in Bedfordshire, following a devastating arson attack last summer. The incident on August 2, 2025, resulted in the destruction of a wooden boardwalk, bins, and information boards.
The Greensand Trust, which manages the site, has successfully raised nearly £100,000 to fund the extensive repairs. This community-driven effort has been met with widespread support.
In addition to restoring the damaged infrastructure, new security measures, including CCTV, are being installed. This proactive step aims to better protect the reserve from future vandalism.
While the exact reopening date is pending, the trust is optimistic that the public will be able to access the reserve again by the Easter weekend in early April, following the completion of the boardwalk and signage replacements. The reserve holds historical significance, including the Scheduled Monument of Cainhoe Castle.
