A crucial boardwalk at Clophill Lakes, extensively damaged in an arson attack last August, has been successfully rebuilt. This vital restoration project was completed remarkably quickly, with a new, larger 70m structure now providing a fully accessible pathway around Castle Lake.
The community's response was swift and generous, raising £100,000 within a six-month period to fund the rebuild. Officials from the Greensand Trust expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support, highlighting the collaborative effort in making the new boardwalk a reality.
The nature reserve itself, which welcomed the public in April, boasts a variety of wildlife, including otters, sand martins, dragonflies, skylarks, and wildflowers. Despite the significant damage caused by the deliberate fires, the reserve is now fully operational, with the rebuilt boardwalk ready for visitors.
Bedfordshire Police confirmed that their investigation into the arson incident has thus far been unable to identify a suspect. Officers continue to appeal for any information that might assist in their inquiry into the deliberate acts.
